6 more weeks of winter: Punxsutaney Phil predicts again

Punxsutawney Phil predicted 6 more weeks of winter, as he has 20 times since 2000.

Groundhog Day took place for the 140th time this Monday, as Gobblers Knob in Punxsutaney, Pennsylvania, erupted with boos, as groundhog Phil predicted 6 more weeks of winter.

The tradition stems from the ancient European Christian practice known as Candelmas, commemorating the presentation of Jesus at the Temple of Jerusalem, on February 2nd. If the day is sunny and Phil sees his shadow, 6 more weeks of winter. If it is cloudy, and Phil is unable to see his shadow, an early spring. However, the results have typically been lopsided. In this century alone, Phil has predicted 6 weeks of winter 20 out of 26 times. While Punxsutawney Phil might not be the most accurate weather reporter, he is certainly one of the most famous.
